Monastero "Immacolata" - Foresteria del Convento

This monastery, named after the saints Catherine and Barbara, was founded in 1500 and, for about three centuries, belongs to the Benedictine Camaldolese Religious. The Greek cross church, based on the design and construction of Bibiena and Buonamici, was consecrated on June 2, 1738. In the early 1800s, with the suppression of Napoleon, all the property passed into private hands and remained there for over 50 years. It was a long period of decline. In 1855 Angela Molari, eager to found a new monastery, with other girls who already lived with her at the Colonnella, was able to purchase this monastery with the help of benefactors. Freed from the numerous occupants who first occupied it, she started its restoration and renovation, then came to live there with her six companions, after having solemnly done the religious investiture at the College, on May 3, 1857, in the presence of the Bishop and other religious and civil authorities. In the year 2007, after a careful discernment due to lack of vocations, Mo. Paola Cacciari, who for long years had headed the monastery, together with the other four sisters, decided to merge with our Congregation so that in their houses, we continue to work for the good of the Church and society.
