Istituto "Sacro Cuore" - Curia Generalizia

The Institute of the Sacred Heart in Rome, the present Generalate of the Congregation, is located in Via Torre Rossa, 94. The property is bordered by: Domus Pacis (currently Church Village Hotel), Collegio Pio Latino, Opera Don Guanella and Collegio Sacerdotale Altomonte of Opus Dei. The building, owned by Mr. Remo Schiavetti, auctioned following a declaration of bankruptcy by the sons of Mr. Schiavetti, was purchased by our Congregation in 1978. The objective of the purchase of the house was to have a religious community in Rome, as a transient house and stop over to and from the airport, for Sisters who come and go for mission abroad. Furthermore, it was a necessary response to the health needs of Sisters for medical visits in the hospitals of the capital city, as well as a response to their ongoing spiritual formation and professional updating, in attending courses and conferences at the universities of Rome.
In October of the same year, 1980, Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, Bishop of the Archdiocese of Medellin in Colombia, asked Mo. Giovanna to host his student-priests, studying in various pontifical universities. Thus, began the assistance to the College of Medellin through board and rent of the first floor apartment, allowing a dozen of priests and deacons, coming from the Archdiocese of Medellin to settle in our house.
In the General Chapter of 1982, the house in Rome, entitled Institute of the "Sacred Heart", was erected as a novitiate house, so that from Capua, the novitiate was transferred to Rome in September of 1982, with the entry into the novitiate of 27 young women, entrusted to Sr. Celina who, in part, had accompanied them on the formative journey of the postulancy.
